Track and Field Teams Showcase Their Skills

George School’s girls’ varsity track team finished 8-1 and 4-0 in league competitions. The team placed second out of ten teams overall at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Championships, outrunning, out throwing and out jumping most of their opponents. The team also placed second in the Friends Schools League Championships in a closely contested meet, with only seven points separating first and second places (118.5 to 125.5).
School records were broken throughout the season, in the 4X100m relay (Ama Baffoe-Bonnie ‘11, Christina Haney ’09, Xavia Bethea ’12, and Natalie Ryan ’09), the 4X400m relay (Emily Mapelli ’09, Xavia Bethea ’12, Priscilla Wiggins ’09, and Natalie Ryan ’09), the long jump (Natalie Ryan ’09), and the 800m and 1600m runs (Priscilla Wiggins ’09). Xavia Bethea ’12, Ama Baffoe-Bonnie ’11, Priscilla Wiggins ’09, Emily Mapelli ’09, Christina Haney ’09, and Jill Mahrer ’11 were selected for the 2009 FSL All-League Team.
The boys' varsity track team placed fifth overall in team competition at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Championships and received one silver and six bronze medals. Thirteen team members scored points for the team and notably achieved seventeen personal records. The team placed fourth in the Friends Schools League Championships. Nick Simone ’11, Arie Manders ’12, Alex Reese ’12, and Jarron Speller ’12 were selected for the 2009 FSL All-League Team.
