George School is proud to announce that Head of School Nancy Starmer has been awarded a fully-funded fellowship to the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership for the 2009 Heads of Schools Program. Located at Teachers College, Columbia University, the Klingenstein Center selects twenty heads of school to participate in this program annually, on the basis of outstanding accomplishment or potential for excellence.

Scheduled to run from January 26 to February 6, 2009, the two-week program is designed as an opportunity for focused professional enrichment, renewal, and reflection. Nancy will join independent school heads from throughout the United States—as well as participants from the Netherlands, Norway, Cambodia, Australia, Spain, and Turkey—at the Columbia University campus in New York City for the program. There the participants will engage in intensive study to examine educational issues and policies facing independent school educators.

“We are delighted that Nancy will have the honor of taking part in this distinguished program,” said David Bruton, clerk of the George School Committee, the school’s governing board. “The Klingenstein Center is known for its dedication to the quality of independent education, to collaboration and teamwork, and to social justice and diversity. Its philosophy is an excellent match for George School’s Quaker values and academic rigor.”
