Monday, September 29, 2008
George School is proud to announce that seniors Joshua McGowan of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and Kevin Miller of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, are semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. Joshua and Kevin were selected for this honor based on their performance on the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). In addition, six seniors who were high scorers on the test received letters of commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
As semifinalists, Joshua and Kevin are among approximately 16,000 high school seniors who will have the opportunity to proceed in the competition for about 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards that will be given this spring. George School’s commended students (listed below) scored among the top 5 percent of the over 1.5 million juniors in United States high schools who entered the 2009 National Merit Program by taking the 2007 PSAT/NMSQT.
Begun in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Program is a privately-financed annual academic competition for recognition and scholarships.
