Poetry and the Post-Season: Part 2

Posted By Karen Hallowell, Wednesday, November 4, 2009
Updated: Wednesday, December 9, 2009
With the Yankees and Phillies facing off, it was going to be a Turnpike Series … and George School was caught up in the spirit. But, amid the excitement, the Yanks and Phils fans on campus and beyond were at the ready, pens and tablets in hand, logged on and ready for a friendly battle of words. Some of the names have been changed to protect the innocent … but you’ll get the picture. (For a complete view of the post season baseball limerick collection on the Alumni Website, click here.)

Game 1: Phillies 6, Yankees 1

From: Laura K., Thursday, October 29, 2009
Subject: A phine perphormance

It's caps off to Cliff Lee W
ho tossed strikes one-two-three
Past A-Rod (three times)
Inspiring more rhymes
And besting his old friend CC

Game 2: Phillies 1, Yankees 3

From: Daniel F., Thursday, October 29, 2009
Subject: Limerick Time?

Now I know we shouldn't taunt other fans’ teams,
But how else should we blow off that Game one steam?
Now it looks like it wasn't the Phillies’ day,
Was Howard a no hitter tonight? Oy Vey!
Watching that game tonight sure was fun,
'Cause come game three 'dem Phillies are done!

And, inevitably, a different point of view:

From: Rebecca M., Thursday, October 29, 2009
Subject: A differing viewpoint

Well the Phillies sure are a sensation,
And they'll soon send the Yanks on vacation.
But the series don't matta
It's all idle chatta
Cause we live in RED SOX NATION!

And it’s on to Philly for Game 3. Don’t touch that dial, Sports Fans!
